New Year Gift From Atash To Mark The Persian New Year And The Onset Of Spring
This Nowruz we offer our special edition -Atash 1396, a 96 page magazine styled supplement to our readers. The Atash Media group in Tornoto, which is the publishing arm behind the supplement, aims to come out with further such publications in future -covering diverse topics.
Nowruz, a three thousand year old ancient tradition is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Iranians. The Iranian New Year or better known as Nowruz marks the beginning of spring. It’s the time when people meet and greet other family members, set Haft Seen, and tidy up their homes to welcome the New Year.
Nowruz is not just celebrated in Iran but is followed across the world in countries like Tajikistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Syria, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Albania, China, Turkey, Turkmenistan, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The United Nations had on 23rd February 2010 officially added Nowruz in its annual events calendar and is observed by more than 300 million people worldwide.
The significance of this ceremony prompted us to come out with the first special edition of Atash in a new format. This magazine is our New Year gift to thousands of Persian readers, who religiously follow Atash through its weekly newspaper, daily newsletter, website and social media networks.
For this spring issue, we have the interviews of famous Canadian based Iranian artists like Soheil Parsa – a prominent Canadian-Iranian theater director and Gholam Hossein Nami – co-founder and former president of the Iranian Painters Association. Here they share their memories and experiences of Nowruz.
The magazine further delves into the details of the festivities, provides tit-bits on New Year shopping and more on the upcoming spring holidays that are set to be celebrated both in Iran and also by millions of immigrants across the world; who have been away from home for many years.
In our other section, readers get to know about Canada’s famous love story. It’s about Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and more on their love, marriage and family life. We also have tips on how to dress up for Nowruz. The special edition also features greetings from artists, athletes, Iranian as well as non-Iranian celebrities.
Wishing everyone a Happy Iranian Nowruz and a New Year!
